Exotic, weird and wonderful: Fruits of Vietnam

There were so many moments during our trip to Vietnam that have been purely inspirational. Eating fresh fruit was definitely one of them.

Growing up exotic fruit was a part of my childhood, much more than apples and bananas, though I do enjoy them as well.

I didn’t understand the value of money as a child, but I knew they cost an obscene amount of money. I understand why that is now, as it’s the price of shipping something halfway around the world after all.

This past trip has allowed me to indulge in a lot of these favourites cheaply, but also allowed me to understand a little more about where they come from. Continue reading

Tasting notes

Whenever I eat anything sweet- a tart, petit gateaux, entremet- the thing will be a mess three bites in because I will have picked it apart.

I will break the pastry up into all of its components, eating them separately and then together. I’ll look at it, smell it and lightly graze it with my tongue for the first flavour notes. As I slowly begin to eat it, I’ll let each morsel linger in my cheek.

If it hasn’t been obvious, I take immense pleasure in eating. When I eat pastries in particular, I want to experience everything that piece has to offer. I want to savour it and reflect on it the way sommelier gushes over the nuances of wine.
